Young Professional of the Year Award This award is designed to specifically spotlight career achievements, community/organization involvement and awards/achievements of funeral professionals under the age of 50. All award nominees must be active employees of Selected member firms (domestic or international) and under the age of 50 as of February 1, 2011. Individuals may self-nominate. Completed nomination application packets must be received no later than October 22 for consideration for the 2011 award. The Young Professional of the Year award will be presented during a special ceremony at Selected’s 2011 NextGen Seminar to be held January 23-27.

by business consultant Buz Buzogany on strategic plan implementation and by Tony Lloyd and Mark McCrocklin of member firm Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Centers, Indianapolis, IN. Tony and Mark presented a session titled “Funeral Service in the Real World.” In the exerpts, Tony shares how important it is for leaders to pick a goal and then identify someone who can help hold you accountable. This will significantly increase the likelihood that the goal will be implemented. In his comments, Mark outlines the “rules” that Flanner and Buchanan has developed for the Work Teams it creates to work on various goals. Mark emphasized the importance of involving staff at all levels in the Work Teams.
