NextGen Planning Session
Piecing Together the Staff Puzzle
Are you a family member moving up the ranks of the firm and now expected to manage staff who still remember you, literally, as the baby taking your first steps in the arrangement office? Are you a staff member trying to figure out what your future will be once the owner’s family succession plan kicks in? Are you frustrated, trying to get your “more seasoned” co-workers to embrace new technology and new processes for serving the client families of today and tomorrow?
No matter your role in your firm, putting together the puzzle for the most effective and harmonious staff team is challenging! Changes are ongoing both inside and outside the firm. How can you create a culture that makes you and everyone on the team want to come to work each day and serve each client family in the best way possible?
As a Certified Professional Behavior Analyst and a Human Capital Strategist, Brian Parsley knows success within any organization begins with its people. This workshop will offer real-world insights into the connection between employee behavior and bottom-line results. Brian focuses on key elements critical to success including creating dynamic customer experiences, building staff and customer loyalty, developing leadership skills and finding purpose in business and life. Brian will show how to put all the puzzle pieces together to reveal the completed picture.

Early Bird Session
Join your fellow Selected colleagues for an informal discussion on the topics that matter most to you. A long-time Selected tradition, the Early Bird session allows members to share ideas, challenges and solutions in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
Funeral Service Perspectives and Insights
Every funeral professional’s journey is woven together with both unique circumstances and common elements. Hearing the stories of others offers invaluable perspectives and insights. In that spirit, this session brings together three respected Selected members who have advanced in their careers to top positions. Each will share their experiences, highlighting the best practices they’ve learned along the way in order to best serve their client families and communities as well as operate a successful business. Panelists include Tom Antram of French Funeral and Cremation in Albuquerque, NM and Rick and Jane Bissler of Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent, OH. There will be time at the end of the session for a question/answer period to directly address what concerns you most in your daily operations.

Best Practices Exchange
Back by popular demand, this fast-paced session offers you a chance to share the best ideas from your firms. Participants are encouraged to bring materials/samples to show to the group. Facilitated by NextGen Advisory Group Chair Nick Vander Plaat of Vander Plaat Memorial Home LLC in Paramus, NJ, the goal will be to generate as many ideas as possible and allow time for members to discuss in further detail the ideas that interest them most. This year’s session will begin with a special featured presentation by Rick Harris, Manager/Funeral Director with Selected member firm Paul W. Harris in Rochester, NY, and Co-owner of Pet Passages. Rick will share key insights into offering pet services for those who wish to develop pet services at their firm and for those looking to improve their current pet service businesses.
While enjoying a casual lunch, members will have a chance to say farewell. We hope you leave recharged, renewed and ready to implement all the exciting new ideas shared during the week!
