Arlington National Cemetery Tour


Those who participated in the Selected Annual Meeting in Washington, DC gathered for a networking lunch on Friday, September 23, and a special guided Arlington National Cemetery Tour.
Fort Sam National Cemetery Tour
Those who participated in the Selected Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX enjoyed a networking lunch on Friday, September 24 and a special guided Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Tour.
Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, originally a post cemetery established in 1924, is now one of 155 national cemeteries under the Department of Veterans Affairs. Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery was established in 1937 and consists of 208 developed acres as the resting place for more than 165,000 veterans and eligible dependents. The complex operation provides interment, on average, to 4,200 veterans and eligible dependents each year, making it the eighth-busiest national cemetery based on annual interment rate. Facilitated by Jeff Smith, President of Smith Funeral Homes & Rosemont Cemetery , this session united Selected’s Combo owners on July 27, 2021 and featured a presentation by Aubrey David, Director of Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
2020 Annual Meeting Recap Cemetery Share: Strategies, Next Practices and Solutions
Facilitated by Kimberly Farris-Luke, Farris Funeral Service, VA; and Jim La Mar, Greenlawn Funeral Homes & Cemeteries, CA; both members of Selected’s Combo Owner segment, participants were offered a chance to share ideas ask questions and re-imagine their cemetery operations.

2019 Annual Meeting Recap: Be a Gathering Place Session
Building traffic and being relevant is a goal every cemetery shares. Our 2019 Annual Meeting included this session which featured Marcy Breffle and David Moore of Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. Breffle and Moore explained the creative methods and details involved to facilitate their innovative and popular programs such as the Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween tours, pop-up shops at the Oakland Museum Shop, the Tunes from the Tombs music festival, beer tours, photography walks, and others.

2018 Annual Meeting Recap: Larkin Sunset Gardens Tour and Networking Breakfast

As we celebrated our 100th Annual Meeting at the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort in Salt Lake City, UT we created more opportunities for members of our Funeral Home + Cemetery Management Program to connect and network.
On Friday, October 12, nearly 90 members participated in a tour of Larkin Sunset Gardens, which is situated on 76 acres of lush green property in the south end of the Salt Lake valley. Click here to view the Facebook Live video and to access the photo album.

On Saturday, October 13, members participated in a networking breakfast and lively discussion.

2017 Annual Meeting Recap: Cemetery Tour, Insightful Conversations Offer Fresh Perspectives
Selected members visited Graceland Cemetery to explore the art, architecture and landscape design in this active cemetery and arboretum. Designed by visionary landscape architects, Graceland serves as the final resting place to many prominent Chicago athletes, politicians, industrialists and others.
